Under the agreement, Honeywell has signed up as silver partner for Emirates Foundation's 2015-2016 Think Science competition.

The initiative, which is part of Honeywell's commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers in the UAE, will see the global technology leader provide guidance and support to Think Science participants as they develop, design and build aerospace projects that aim to solve real-world problems.

Held under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister and Chairman of Emirates Foundation, the Think Science competition, is part of a national programme that seeks to inspire, encourage and empower Emirati youth aged 15 to 35 to embrace careers in science-related fields and to follow their passion for science with interactive, hands-on activities in engineering, energy, aviation and other tech industries.

The nationwide contest engages UAE youth to develop, design and build science-based innovations that respond to society’s most pressing needs.

DC Aviation Al-Futtaim to expand operations at Dubai South

Massive airport developments in Middle East to push global aviation growth

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport will enter 40th anniversary year with record growth and major developments ahead

As it approaches its 40thanniversary year Ras Al Khaimah International Airport has reported a highly successful 2015, during which aircraft movements of scheduled flights increased by 26% over the previous year. New charter operations from Germany, Poland, Latvia and Russia also kicked off.

In addition, Air Arabia, for whom RAK International is a growing hub, increased flight frequencies to the 10 destinations that they service from the emirate. The cumulative effect of these positive results was a 17% rise in passenger traffic over 2014.

On the cargo front the airport’s business grew by 51% year on year following some reconfigurations made early in 2015.

Moving to non-aeronautical activities RAK International made significant progress too during 2015 with new deals being signed for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul as well as aircraft decommissioning.

Bahrain Airport Services turn to Ideagen's Q-Pulse for controlled document management & 30% productivity increase

INFORMATION Management software developer, Ideagen, is working with Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) to improve regulatory and operational document management at Bahrain International Airport.

Ideagen’s Q-Pulse safety and quality management software is being used to control the increasing complexities of managing differing regulatory and operator document approvals, particularly those related to EASA Part 145, Part M and Part 66.

Andrew Gardner, Manager Quality Assurance - Maintenance at BAS, said: “BAS follow processes to EASA Part 145, Part M and Part 66, as well as adhere to regulations from eight different countries, all based upon EASA. We are also applying for Saudi approval which is based on FAA, and this will be incorporated into Q-Pulse in due course.”

Andrew added: “Without controlled documentation, you can’t operate effectively, so an efficient means of managing documents is essential. Auditing is becoming increasingly complex and the ability to adequately control this as well as to tightly manage findings is imperative. Lockheed Martin Partners with Advanced Electronics Company To Open New Sniper ATP Support Center in Saudi Arabia

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and Advanced Electronics Company (AEC) recently celebrated the opening of the Sniper® Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) Expanded Repair Capability center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This marks the start of operations at the first Sniper ATP support center located outside the United States.

The Sniper ATP Expanded Repair Capability center provides sustainment support for Sniper ATPs, which perform different defense operations. Due to its in-Kingdom location, the center helps expedite repair times, improving readiness. It also generates in-Kingdom employment opportunities and expands the local manufacturing base.

Entry Point North delivers OJT and validation performed on a simulator for HFIS Surveillance

As a breakthrough in ATM training, Entry Point North is now providing Surveillance and On-the-job training (OJT) including final validation on a simulator for Helicopter Flight Information Service (HFIS) Operators.

The first course was delivered during November-December 2015 and on December 18, 3 participants from an oil production operator, were validated and graduated from the academy in Malm?. Firstly, the HFIS operators were required to successfully complete the initial Surveillance training course followed by OJT in the simulators leading to a final endorsement validation supervised by the national regulator.

Cathay Pacific group enters new era with rebranding of Dragonair as Cathay Dragon

The Cathay Pacific Group announced a new era of growth and opportunity for its two airlines. Cathay Pacific’s wholly owned sister airline Dragonair is to be rebranded as Cathay Dragon. The two will remain as separate airlines, operating under their own licences.
