Serco Highlights Airspace Management and Training of Nationals as Key Priorities for Middle East’s Aviation Industry

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, 10 November, 2015 – During the Dubai Airshow, Serco Group plc (Serco), the international service company, has highlighted two of the major issues facing the Middle East’s aviation industry, as it marks 55 years of supporting airports around the wider region.
“Airspace management is the single most pressing consideration of airports throughout the Middle East, as the regional authorities invest in building new airports and upgrading existing ones, and regional carriers continue to purchase aircraft and add new routes,” said Serco’s Aviation Director, Peter Mohring. “Airports today are looking for expertise in airspace management, including remote management for higher risk locations and to reduce costs, as well as total aviation solutions that include security, risk management, health and safety, training, and facilities management.”
Serco is currently partnering with a number of technology providers to develop solutions specific to aviation, including collaborative decision-making to manage operations in extreme weather and other unforeseen circumstances, high-level radar services through international satellites, and remote management services for difficult-to-reach areas. As the Middle East’s aviation industry grows, consultancy services are in high demand to keep pace with customer demand, safety considerations, and the region’s changing economic and political landscape.
‘Knowledge transfer to nationals is another key consideration in the Middle East’s aviation sector. Airport officials want a locally-sourced workforce that is trained to international standards to create employment opportunities, facilitate a skills base among nationals, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of that country’s aviation industry,” he added.
Having managed air traffic control for key airports in the Middle East since 1947, Serco currently manages 192,000 square miles of airspace over five countries.
Serco is a participant in the Dubai Airshow from 8-12 November, and is showcasing its expertise in airspace management, facilities management for airports, employee training, and a range of further aviation-related services and consultancy.
