Interroll to showcase USDA-approved Drum Motor lineup at IPPE 2016

Atlanta, January 18, 2016 -- Interroll, supplier of material handling equipment and systems, will present its latest lineup of belt drives to North American poultry processing professionals at IPPE in Atlanta this month. Interroll will be showcasing its products at Booth #8752, Hall B, at the Georgia World Congress Center, January 26-28.
The CDC estimates that, each year, roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) get sick from foodborne diseases, with 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths, costing the economy a staggering $15.6 billion a year.
January marks the fifth anniversary of the signing into law of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The consequent regulations will begin to kick in this year and, as a result, manufacturers are under pressure to increase their focus on food safety procedures.
The Interroll Drum Motor helps poultry processing companies stay away from costly recalls due to food contamination. Responding to an industry need for better, easier-to-clean drum motors for handling food products in distribution centers and warehouses, Interroll’s R&D department designed the Drum Motor using only first class materials.
Unlike other belt drives and drum motors, it was designed in strict accordance with USDA, FDA and NSF guidelines. It is, without question, the most hygienic belt drive on the market.
The Interroll Asynchronous Drum Motor (models 113i, 138i, 165i and 217i) has gained approval from the USDA for compliance with guidelines for sanitary design and fabrication of processing equipment for handling meat, poultry and dairy products. Furthermore, with its standard IP66 and IP69k sealing systems, the Interroll Drum Motor has been designed to serve reliably in challenging wet and high-pressure wash-down situations.
Conventional gear motors are bulky, difficult to install and - most importantly - difficult to clean, making them unhygienic. In contrast, the Interroll Drum Motor is compact, easy to install and can be cleaned and disinfected regularly using high-pressure water, steam and chemicals. This helps food manufacturers achieve the highest possible hygiene standards and eradicate contamination from Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli and other harmful microorganisms in the food production environment.
“Hygiene is extremely important to us and that’s why we rely on the Interroll Drum Motor,” said Jeff Evers of Butterball LLC, one of the largest global turkey providers in the world. Butterball, which exports more than 100 million pounds of products annually to more than 50 countries, uses Interroll drum motors in food production.
“We understand how critical food safety is in processing environments,” said Tim McGill, President of Interroll North and South America. “For this reason, we continue to evolve our products to be the best on the market, so our customers can focus on their business without worrying about the dangers of operating in a potentially unclean environment. Extensive research and development has been put into the Interroll Drum Motor, and our participation in the voluntary certification process speaks to the confidence we have in it.”
Key features of the Interroll Drum Motor include:
- USDA Equipment Acceptance Certificate (meat, poultry and dairy)
- Approved for models 113i, 138i, 165i, 216i and 217i
- Configured to drive all modular belting applications
- Complies with Part 21 CFR for US Dairy Equipment Guidelines
- IP66 (IP69k available on the Synchronous Drum Motor)
- FDA-rated Vulcanized lagging
- Leak escape feature in shaft.
- Surface finish less than 30 micro-inches on shell and shafts.
