The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) reviews the role of institutional performance measurement in promoting job excellence

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) held a workshop entitled “Measuring Institutional Performance as part of the Governmental Excellence program” at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai from 6 to 8 August, in the presence of all representative groups of all the organizational units at the authority, where the number of attendance was 33 employees from all levels.
In his opening speech, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi – GCAA Director General mentioned that excellence has become a deeply rooted culture and approach to work in all governmental and private sectors in the United Arab Emirates. The GCAA aims to further advance a culture of excellence among its employees and departments by adopting a set of measures and policies that create an integrated internal work environment that provides the best services to all customers using modern and innovative methods. This follows the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai: “in the race of excellence, there is no finish line”
Laila bin Hareb, Assistant General Manager of the Strategic and International Affairs Sector said that institutional performance is a result of both individual performance and collective performance in all parts of an organization. She also talked about the importance of periodic evaluation of this performance to set achievement standards and future goals.
Bin Hareb also stated that the General Civil Aviation Authority places immense importance on performing in line with the best practices of the government excellence policy. This approach helps all GCAA employees to improve their skills which in turn allows them to achieve optimal levels of productivity and provide innovative, high quality services.
Participants in the workshop reviewed the capacity for all the administrative units in the Authority and their compatibility with the general performance indicators. Furthermore, the workshop was designed to establish a culture of teamwork and excellence throughout the Authority and for the different departments within the organization to work towards achieving the prosperous future laid out in Government Vision 2021.
The workshop also included a series of practical lectures that discussed the importance of measuring institutional performance and its role in achieving leadership and excellence at work. The workshop also highlighted a number of scientific methods and innovative tools to help achieve its aims.
